Move over Argan, there’s a new oil coming to Essential! Marula oil, used by African women for centuries, is prized for its fast absorbing, light, non-greasy texture.
From South Africa, marula oil is derived from the nut of the Sclerocarya Birrea, a medium-sized dioecious tree, indigenous to the woodlands of Southern Africa.
Essential sources marula oil from the fruit collected by members of the Bushbuck Ridge area in Limpopo – one of the poorest regions in South Africa. There are currently about 4,000 listed harvesters. Participants in the marula program are typically women, and this opportunity is uniquely suited to the constraints they face in participating in economic activity. The relationship between our supplier and the rural women is such that it empowers people rather than create dependency. Strict South African policies protect the Sclerocarya Birrea trees to ensure environmentally friendly treatment and sustainable harvesting of marula fruit.
Why use marula oil?
Rich with essential fatty acids, marula oil helps to create a more youthful and radiant glow to the skin. Its fine molecular structure is the key to its effectiveness as a skin hydrator and protector making it ideal for aging skin and under-nourished skin.
