Natural Zinc Deodorant Recipe
We’ve updated this recipe for summer 2015. This all-natural alternative to typical aluminum-based deodorants is both eco-friendly and effective at fighting body odor. It’s easy to make at home with no special equipment.
Ingredients
- 6 oz yellow beeswax prills
- 8 oz Fractionated Coconut Oil (Medium Chain Triglycerides)
(Meadowfoam Oil and Jojoba oil are both good alternatives) - 16 oz Zinc Oxide
- 0.3 oz Deoessence EO Blend (luscious blend with Blended with the Essential Oils of – Bergamot, Cypress, Lavender, Juniper Berry, Tea Tree, Pink Grapefruit, Patchouli, and Lemon.)
Equipment
- Pyrex Measuring Cup
- Spatula to help with blending
- Microwave
- Hand blender
- Deodorant tubes
- Labels
Directions
- Pour 8 oz Fractionated Coconut Oil in a Pyrex measuring cup. Then add 6 oz of yellow beeswax prills to the Fractionated Coconut Oil. Important note: Fractionated Coconut Oil was chosen for this recipe because it is very resistant to rancidity.
- Microwave the mixture of Oil and Beeswax Prills for 2 – 3 minutes.
- Once the mixture is good and hot, add your 16 oz of Zinc Oxide.
- Use a hand held blender to thoroughly mix the Zinc Oxide into the Oil and Beeswax mix. If with the addition of Zinc Oxide, the mixture begins to thicken too quickly, put it back in the microwave and heat for one minute.
- Remove the mixture from the microwave and finish blending.
- Add .3 oz Deoessence EO Blend, or Tea Tree Essential Oil, Cedarwood Essential Oil or Cypress Essential Oil.
- When you are satisfied that the mixture is thoroughly blended and smooth, you can pour into your deodorant tubes, cap, and let cool.
- As soon as the mixture has hardened it is ready to use.
Directions for use:
Apply under arms as needed. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
