Have you ever wondered how Essential comes up with the ideas for products we offer? Inspiration for new products can come from many sources in many ways. Over the years, Essential has found its inspiration from amazing and sometimes unexpected sources.
Of course, most ideas come from nature and what the natural world offers in all its brilliance and mystery. Many ideas come from customers asking us to create natural versions of products they love. Muscle Jelly is a good example as the natural, and in this humble writer’s opinion, better-smelling version of Icy Hot. It works wonders on sore muscles, especially great after a long run. Employees also provide us with ideas for new products. Those of us lucky enough to work here are encouraged to bring ideas for new products and even do research to see if those ideas would be viable as new products. Some are, and some aren’t but it sure is fun to explore.
Essential General Manager, Laura Badcock is a master formulator and she has some truly innovative, creative and interesting ideas. When asked where her ideas come from, Laura will often say, “I had a dream last night about it.” Some of our favorite products are a result of her inspired dreams. USDA Certified Organic Dream Crème was named Dream Crème not only for its dreamy ability to act as an effective moisturizer but also for its effectiveness at taming frizzy hair without leaving hair weighed down and flat. Luscious, bouncy, natural curls have never looked better! And the formulation came to her in a dream. We have a new product we’re working on inspired by yet another dream. While I would LOVE to give you the details, it’s strictly hush hush for now until we fully test the product so no sneak peak.
Laura’s ability to literally turn her dreams into reality is inspiration for me. I have ideas flow into my mind as I start to drift off to sleep. I’ve heard about having a pen and paper next to the bed to record dreams, ideas and such, but I could never bring myself to fully wake up, turn on a light, and write my ideas down. This is where technology is helpful. I keep my phone by the bed charging at night. It just sits there eating power until now. When a good idea flows through my mind, I pick up my phone and tell Siri to take a note. So much easier than pen and paper and I don’t have to fully wake up to record! I will admit, some of the ideas are quite laughable in the morning, but some are worth keeping.
Where do you find your inspiration? We’d love to hear about where your ideas come from, the more unusual, the better!
