110 ounces Shea Butter
21 ounces Meadow Foam Oil
26 ounces Olive Oil, Extra Virgin
.05 ounces Carrot Oil, CP
.05 ounces Avocado Oil
.05 ounces Tamanu Oil
.05 ounces Rosehip Oil
.05 ounces Evening Primrose Oil
.05 ounces Vitamin E Oil
6 ounces Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil
You will also need:
A metal pot that can accommodate 164 fluid ounces (1.28 gallons)
A mixing spoon
A hand held electric beater
A space in your freezer large enough to accommodate the pot
Enough jars to for 10 lb. of Grapefruit Whipped Body Butter
Begin by blending the following oils in your large metal pot:
21 ounces Meadow Foam Oil
26 ounces Olive Oil, Extra Virgin
.05 ounces Carrot Oil, CP
.05 ounces Avocado Oil
.05 ounces Tamanu Oil
.05 ounces Rosehip Oil
.05 ounces Evening Primrose Oil
.05 ounces Vitamin E Oil
Once the oils are thoroughly blended, heat the mixture to 180 degrees Fahrenheit on your stove top. Heat on low to medium, checking the temperature every five minutes using a hand held thermometer. The oils should reach 180 degrees within 15 minutes.
When the mixture reaches 180 degrees, remove the pot from the stove top and begin slowly adding the Shea Butter. Stir until the Shea Butter completely melts into the oils. If the Shea Butter is reluctant to melt completely, place the pot back on the stove on low heat for a few minutes. This should do the trick. Once the Shea Butter is completely melted take the pot off the stove and mix the product for several minutes with an electric beater. Using the beater injects air, whipping the product and helping to cool it down faster. Shea Butter can be challenging to work with. It has a frustrating tendency to crystalize if it is heated too high or cooled down too slowly. This product is going to be beaten and cooled in the freezer repeatedly over the next several hours, so crystallization shouldn’t be a problem.
Once you have whipped the product, place it in the freezer, checking the product every five minutes. When the mixture begins to appear cloudy, remove it from the freezer and beat it using the electric mixture for another few minutes, replacing it in the freezer afterward. After approximately 30 minutes in the freezer the mixture will have cooled substantially, becoming thick and opaque with a yellowish hue. Remove the product from the freezer and once again beat it with the electric mixture for several minutes. After beating it put the product back in the freezer for another 30-60 minutes.
After an hour or so in the freezer, the product will be turning white and the texture will be lighter each time you beat it. It is getting close to being done! Remove the product from the freezer and beat it again with the electric mixer. At this point add your Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil, using the beater to thoroughly mix it in. Butters can absorb a lot of essential oil and the 6 fl oz of Grapefruit EO equals 3.5% of the recipe. After completely mixing in the Grapefruit Oil, put the mixture back into the freezer for 45 minutes, then take the mixture out of the freezer and beat it once again. By now the butter is becoming very light and fluffy. Once last time, place the mixture back into the freezer for one hour. After one hour, remove the mixture from the freezer, beat it with the electric mixer and let it sit on the counter top to cool over night or until it reaches room temperature. Once the product has reached room temperature beat it with the electric mixer one last time.
Now the butter is completely whipped, light and easy to handle. This is the perfect time to package the product into whatever shape and volume of container you prefer. Using a large spoon scoop the whipped butter into your container of choice and tap the filled container on the counter top to remove air bubbles, allowing the product to settle.
