Ashwagandha is arguably one of the most valuable tools in Ayurvedic medicine and has been used to treat specific health conditions for about 3,000 years. Over time, ashwagandha’s health effects have been tested and well-documented, but less has been written about its benefit to your hair & skin.
Ashwagandha’s scientific name is Withania Somnifera but the common name is Sanskrit and comes from the belief that this amazing plant will give you the strength and vitality of a horse. Literally translated, ashwagandha means “horse smell”, and while it does have a strong, herbaceous aroma it does not at all smell like a horse. Rich in iron, antioxidants, tannins, potassium, ashwagandha also contains steroidal alkaloids of sominine, somniferine, withanolides, and anferine. All of these amazing compounds help hair and skin look its absolute best.
Check out these impressive benefits for hair and skin:
- Antioxidant – Studies show that ashwagandha is a very effective antioxidant. antioxidants help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and dark spots. We recommend adding Ashwagandha CO2 Extract to any lotion, creme, serum, or oil blend for mature skin care.
- Collagen – While ashwagandha does not contain collagen, it does contain many compounds know to stimulate the skin thereby increasing its appearance.
- Scalp Conditioning – Ashwagandha stimulates the skin so it makes sense it would help with troubled scalps! Add it to your shampoo or conditioner and you will notice the difference in the way your scalp feels and looks.
- Hair Strengthening – The antioxidant effects are beneficial for hair, too! Add the extract to your shampoo, conditioner or leave-in products to increase hair strength and prevent breakage.
